The Summer Reading Challenge 2013

29 Jul

We took a little jaunt to our local library where we spent a good half an hour looking at books and choosing what to take home.

The librarian asked us if we would like to sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge 2013

The children were sent on a hunt around the library looking for various characters from the Creepy House. This gave them an opportunity to explore their library. The morning was completely filled at the library and it cost us absolutely nothing.

At home the children read a different library book every day and we fill in their Creepy House form saying what they have read and how many stars they give it. For every book they read they get a sticker to put on their Creepy House poster. Once they have read 6 books they get a certificate.

It is a great way to for me to keep The Bo reading, as I don’t want him to get out of practise over the holidays. He is really motivated and  he is badgering me to fill in his form as soon as he reads a new book.

I would recommend getting your little people signed up. It costs nothing and it has gives them some sort of focus over the summer. Plus there is more for them to do on the link above.

Also check out the library for child friendly workshops. There are a couple in my town that I will be looking into this week.

A pretty thrifty summer activity.

Fab idea! Do they do an adult version? Sometimes after I’ve slogged through a book I wish I’d never started I want a sticker!
…last time I went to Wolverton library it was on Cambridge Street!

😀 Grown ups should get wine instead of stickers!

Joking aside an adult version may be a good idea. Anything to help keep our libraries open.

Wolverton Library is now on Creed Street next to the theatre
