New Suit + Husband = Disaster

11 Apr

Often when Mr B wears a new piece of clothing out it comes back somehow slightly destroyed. There was the shirt he wore to a football match. His friend, in his excitement managed to not only rip a button off but tear a gaping hole in the fabric. There was the new beige sued shoes (I know. Don’t ask!)that he dropped an egg on and ruined. Another pair of beige sued shoes (yes! A second pair) he spilled beer on. And at a work Christmas party he managed to break in half all the buttons on his suit jacket by attempting to perform a windmill on the dance floor.

It was inevitable when he decided he must have a new outfit for the wedding that he or it would not get away unscathed.

By the end of the night he had managed to slip over on the wet, slippery, slightly snowy decking and cover his backside in filth. Then he spilled a drink all down the right hand side of both the jacket and the trousers.

It goes without saying that I was less than impressed although not overly surprised.

Over breakfast the next morning we were lamenting the ruination of the suit when one of our friends gave me this advice

Place a bit of brown paper over the stain and run a hot iron over it. This will soak up any grease before you send it off to the dry cleaners.

As this friend works with textiles I was inclined to give it a try. I didn’t hold out much hope that the stain would come out so had nothing to lose.

I dutifully ironed brown paper (which I have in abundance) over the several stains and then trundled round to the Dry Cleaners.

The Dry Cleaner took one look at the stains, asked what they were, sucked in his breath and shook his head. Not a great sign.

When I picked it up. all they stains were actually gone. I cannot be completely sure whether the brown paper helped or not but it certainly didn’t do any harm.

I will be using this little tip again in the future.
